Analog Devices MAX33047E/48E/49E RS-485/RS-422 Transceivers offer flexibility and ease of design with an 3.3V or 5V supply rail. The MAX33047E/48E/49E devices feature enhanced protection for applications used in harsh electrical environments. All driver outputs and receiver inputs are protected using high electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.

The ADI transceivers' A/B data lines have fault protection up to ±25V for accidental shorts to local power supplies and ±40kV ESD protection per the human body model (HBM). The devices are also rated up to ±15kV Air-Gap Discharge and ±10kV Contact Discharge per IEC 610004-2. Both features provide robust protection in harsh industrial environments. The drivers are short-circuit-limited and protected against excessive power dissipation by thermal-shutdown circuitry that places the driver outputs in a high-impedance state. The receiver input has a true fail-safe feature that ensures a logic-high output if both inputs are open or short-circuited.

The MAX33047E/48E is housed in an 8-pin package, and the MAX33049E is in a 14-pin small-outline integrated circuit (SOIC) package with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
