Broadcom Optical Power Converters
Broadcom Optical Power Converters include the AFBR-POCxxxL, AFBR-POC306A1, and AFBR-POCx04L product families, which convert optical power to electrical power for applications requiring complete electrical isolation in highly demanding industrial environments. The devices are ideal for powering electronic circuitry where electrically wired solutions are not feasible due to high voltage, electromagnetic inductance, or strong magnetic fields.
The AFBR-POCxxxL is a multi-junction compound semiconductor device that, depending on the chip structure selected, supplies operating voltages for typical 3VDC or 5VDC applications. Typically, 600mW of electrical power can be supplied by converting 1.5W (CW) of optical input power over an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. A Smart thermal configuration simplifies system integration. The AFBR-POCxxxL is optimized for the efficient coupling of MM fibers with commonly available NA. All products are available with industry-standard ST or FC connectors.
The AFBR-POCx04L optical power converters provide a typical output voltage level of 4.3V, supporting most 3VDC applications. The AFBR-POCx06L converters support most 5VDC applications by providing a typical electrical output voltage level of 6.5V. Up to 3 watts of electrical power can be delivered by converting the optical input power provided over optical fiber from a high-power laser diode. The optical power converter features a nearly linear response to the optical input over a wide temperature range.
The Broadcom AFBR-POC306A1 is optimized for integration with efficient coupling of multimode (MM) fibers with numerical apertures ranging from 0.22 to 0.27 and with typical core diameters of 62.5µm to 400µm.
