NXP Semiconductors Kinetis KW36 & KW35 BLE Wireless Microcontrollers

NXP Semiconductors Kinetis® KW36 and KW35 BLE Wireless Microcontrollers (MCUs) are ultra-low power, highly integrated MCUs that enable BLUETOOTH® Low Energy (BLE) Version 5 and Generic FSK (at 250kbps, 500kbps, and 1000kbps) connectivity for automotive, industrial, and medical embedded systems. NXP KW36 and KW35 MCUs integrate an Arm® Cortex®-M0+ CPU, up to 512 KB Flash and 64 KB SRAM, BLUETOOTH LE and Generic FSK hardware Link Layers, and peripherals optimized to meet the requirements of the target applications. KW36 and KW35 support up to 8 simultaneous BLUETOOTH LE connections as either a master, a slave, or any combination.

All MCUs in the Kinetis KW36 and KW35 Series contain an integrated DC-DC Buck Converter, supporting an operating voltage range from 2.1V to 3.6V, and significantly reducing the peak current in receive and transmit modes. These MCUs also deliver an excellent link budget, ensuring a long range of communication and a high immunity to interference. The KW36 MCUs include an integrated FlexCAN module enabling seamless integration into an automotive or industrial CAN communication network, enabling communication with external control and sensor monitoring devices over Bluetooth LE. The FlexCAN modules support the CAN flexible data-rate (CAN FD) protocol for increased bandwidth and lower latency.

The KW36 and KW35 devices can all be used as a turnkey solution to add BLUETOOTH LE or Generic FSK connectivity to an existing host MCU or MPU or may be used as a standalone smart wireless sensor with an embedded application where no host controller is required.

The Kinetis KW36A and KW35A MCUs feature AEC Q100-Grade 2 temperature range qualification for automotive applications, and the KW36Z and KW35Z feature an Industrial qualification. These devices are offered in a 7mm x 7mm 48-pin Laminate QFN package, and in a 6mm x 6mm 40-pin QFN package with wettable flanks package technology, that enables optical inspection of the soldering, reducing cost and increasing reliability.
