NXP Semiconductors RDI7018C3T1 Reference Design

NXP Semiconductors RDI7018C3T1 Reference Design is a battery cell monitoring unit (CMU) reference design with an electrical transport protocol link (ETPL) communication interface toward a Battery Management Unit (BMU). This reference design is ideal for rapid prototyping of a high-voltage battery energy storage system (BESS) software and hardware. The board contains three BMI7018 analog front ends (AFEs) in a daisy chain.

The NXP Semiconductors RDI7018C3T1 can be used to monitor a battery module with up to 54 cells. There are a total of 27 GPIO/analog measurement inputs for temperature or other measurements. An energy storage system (ESS) is a typical application.

Features

  • Voltage measurement
    • Three BMI7018 battery cell controllers (BCCs) for up to 54 cells, extendable by adding more CMUs to the daisy chain
    • Lifetime guaranteed high-accuracy cell voltage measurement channels, with averaging and advanced filtering
  • Temperature measurement - 3 x 9 analog inputs (including temperature sensors) or GPIOs with advanced filtering
  • Cell balancing with integrated temperature-controller function, with up to 300mA (using default setup)
  • Onboard pressure sensor for thermal runaway detection
  • Isolated TPL communication between CMU and BMU
